Equipment

  • 9x13 baking pan
  • Mixing Bowls
  • Whisk or Electric Mixer
  • Spoon

Ingredients

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix plus ingredients called for on the box (usually eggs, oil, and water)
  • 12.8 oz hot fudge
  • 3.4 oz chocolate instant pudding mix first layer
  • 1 3/4 cup milk for first pudding layer
  • 30 Oreos crushed
  • 3.4 oz chocolate instant pudding mix for topping
  • 1 3/4 cup milk for topping
  • 8 oz cool whip thawed

Instructions

  • Prepare the cake: Preheat your oven and prepare chocolate cake mix according to the package directions. Bake in a 9x13 pan until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Cool and poke: Remove cake from oven and allow to cool for 10 minutes. Using the back of a spoon or a wooden spoon handle, poke holes evenly all over the cake.
  • Add the hot fudge: Warm up hot fudge in the microwave until thin enough to pour. Evenly pour hot fudge over the cake, letting it seep into the poked holes. Allow the cake to finish cooling completely.
  • Pudding layer: In a medium bowl, whisk together 3.4 oz chocolate instant pudding mix and 1 3/4 cup milk. Before it sets fully, pour over the cooled cake, spreading evenly. Refrigerate for about 20 minutes.
  • Topping: In another bowl, whisk together the second 3.4 oz box of pudding mix and 1 3/4 cup milk. Refrigerate until fully set, about 10 minutes.
  • Fold and spread: Remove pudding from fridge and fold in the thawed cool whip. Mix in about 3/4 of the crushed Oreos. Gently spread this mixture on top of the cake.
  • Finish and serve: Sprinkle remaining crushed Oreos over the top. Refrigerate until ready to serve, and then enjoy your Oreo dirt cake!

Notes

The longer this cake chills, the richer and creamier it gets! For an extra fun touch, decorate with gummy worms before serving. Store leftovers covered in the fridge for up to 4 days.
